Music Along the Lighthouse Trails

Lithuanian pianist Darius Mažintas held five musical performances by different lighthouses in Saaremaa (Estonia) from August 6-11, where he performed his improvisations based on Lithuanian and Estonian folk song motifs.

After beginning his lighthouse journey at the Pervalka lighthouse, Mažintas came up with the idea of organizing a tour of the Baltic States’ lighthouses to commemorate the Year of the Lighthouses. “The lighthouse is a symbol of freedom, showing direction. For me, it is the direction of life,” explained Mažintas, who, with the support of the Canadian foundation “Looking at the Stars,” has performed in prisons and hospitals, and after the start of the war in Ukraine, also among the ruins of Irpin and Izium.
